Book of the Year

I am delighted to report that Heritage Fruits & Vegetables has been honoured by The Sunday Times as one of its Gardening Books of the Year.

Unfortunately, I can't link you to the page as the ST is only available online by subscription.

But many thanks to this redoubtable publication for its endorsement and good taste!

Heritage Fruits & Vegetables

Yesterday I received an advance copy of my forthcoming book, Heritage Fruits & Vegetables.  It is always an exciting moment to see, hold and examine 'the real thing' after such a long creative process by a whole team of people.

And I have to say the book is absolutely beautiful beyond even my highest expectations.

So, a huge thank you to Clay Perry for his stunning photographs, and to all at  The Royal Horticultural Society and Thames and Hudson for making the concept a reality and for producing such a stunning book.

A Plug for my Lecture on Saturday

Just a reminder for anyone interested (and I hope you all are!) that I am giving a lecture on the subject of my new book, Heritage Fruits & Vegetables at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival this coming Saturday afternoon.

The talk will focus on the fun and interesting stories behind the fruits and vegetables that we take for granted; and will be illustrated with Clay Perry's wonderful photographs.  It would be lovely to see you there, and tickets are available here.

Dates for the Diary

Just a quick heads-up of a series of events in the state of Virginia, USA and one in Oxford, UK.
An aquatint of Mount Vernon by Francis Jukes, 1800.
The Historic Garden Week is organised by the Garden Club of Virginia and this year is to be held between 21 and 28 April.  To quote the website 'visitors are welcomed to more than 250 of Virginia's most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks during "America's Largest Open House."'  The full programme of tours covers properties and gardens state-wide - including Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington - and is a fantastic opportunity to see living garden history.

And on Saturday March 24th I will be giving a lecture on the subject of my new book at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival. Tickets are available now.
