Oldest Topiary in America

Garden Design has a feature on the oldest topiary in North America.  Does any one know the oldest in Europe or further afield?  Let me know!

  1. Levens Hall in Cumbria must have some of the oldest.

There are also topiary theatres in gardens like the Villa Reale, Marlia and Villa Garzoni that were first constructed in the 17th and 18th century but whether it is still the same hedge is another question....

  2. Yes Levens Hall actually claims to be the oldest in the world... There's also Packwood House, Warwickshire but most of theirs is Victorian. I'm sure most topiary gardens have been replanted. I work at Chastleton House and our topiary box is about 150 years old, probably replacing topiary from the early 18th century.
